Contessa di Radda Chianti Classico
£15.25
Chianti Classico Contessa di Radda was born in 1978 and takes its name from the Countess Willa of Tuscany, mother of the famous Marquis Ugo of Tuscany, mentioned by Dante Alighieri himself in the Divine Comedy as the “Great Baron”. In 978, was the founder of the oldest Benedictine monastery in Florence, the Abbey of Santa Maria, better known as Badia Fiorentina, in the same year the Countess on Tuscany donated to the Badia many of her family’ territories (Radda, Brolio, Radda, Vicchio, Tignano) and others in Barberino and San Gimignano.
The village of Radda in Chianti, which soon became the historical capital of the Lega del Chianti, was mentioned for the first time in a document dating back to 1002. Through this diploma, in fact, the Emperor, of the Holy Roman Empire, Otto III confirmed the donation carried out by the Countess Willa of some of the Chianti territories, including Radda, in favor of the Badia Fiorentina. Following this first certificate, Radda will appear in numerous other documents of the Abbey of Santa Maria in Florence, up to the 12th century. This demonstrates the great strategic value represented by the area.
Precisely for this reason, the farmers of Chianti Geografico have decided to choose her as the face-icon of one of the most emblematic labels of the Chianti Classico.
