Producer Summary: Bodegas Montecillo was established in 1870, making it the third winery to be established in Rioja and the first in Fuenmayor. Fuenmayor is one of the towns with the longest history and tradition in Rioja Alta. Named after the unique landscape, Montecillo (a small hill or hillock), provides the perfect climatic and geological conditions to produce wines of elegance, complexity and balance.
Short Tasting Note: Aromas of white fruit and lilac flower followed by sweet hazelnut. The characteristic salinity and minerality shine through on the palate, along with vibrant acidity and a silky mouthfeel from the lees stirring. Citrus and floral notes persist on the long finish.
Long Tasting Note: This wine is crafted from Albariño grapes grown from 40 year old vines in the El Salnés region near the Atlantic Coast. The grapes are hand-harvested in small batches prior to de-stemming and maceration on the skins for four days. Once fermentation and blending is complete, continuous battonage will take place for added complexity and body. The wine is matured for three months in bottle prior to release. A lively wine with great freshness and aromas of white fruit and lilac flower followed by sweet hazelnut. The characteristic salinity and minerality shine through on the palate, along with vibrant acidity and a silky mouthfeel from the lees stirring. Citrus and floral notes persist on the long finish.
